15 Last Minute Presents For Mother’s Day

So, the snow’s over.

The gorgeous, blanket of crisp snow has transformed overnight into a pile of murky brown slush which lines the streets and splashes up the corner of my trousers when I walk to work.

Glam eh?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed playing ‘stuck in the house for 3 days’ up until I needed to go and do a Sainsburys shop and SWEET JESUS who decided to absolutely loot Sainsburys of er, pretty much everything?

I gotta say though, credit for everyone that managed to snap up that last bags of Haribo and Nachos and leave behind pretty much every vegetable Sainsburys has to offer. You are my kinda people.

And in essence, that’s basically what my weekend consisted of, eating whatever crap I could get my hands on, blaming it on the oh so nearly post apocalyptic weather and not  feeling an ounce guilty for it.

AND IT FELT GREAT.

Can I get a hell yeah for nachos every night of the week?

But anyway, just as quickly as the snow came and went, it’s almost as if I’ve woken up this weekend like FFS, couldn’t March have waited for another couple of weeks?

Because March means Mothers Day, and even though I love my mum to death and want to treat her as much as I treat myself, well, I may have forgotten that Mothers Day was around the corner and MAYDAY MAYDAY we have less than a week to go and I still need to scout her out the perfect present.

I absolutely promise that I’m not the worst daughter in the World, pinky.

So, if you’re as forgetful, I mean, behind as I am, I only gone and done a little round up of all the last minute goodies I think would tickle your mum pink and treat her for just being a straight up fab lady.

A Jungle Green Living Room

It’s a dark, dark time in January.

My diet no longer consists of 97% Quality Streets and 3% pigs in blankets, days are spent wearing proper clothes again and with that post Christmas holiday feeling and to top it off the decorations are taken down and my house is back to feeling devoid of festive cheer.

But really, January gets a bit of a bad rep. This year, instead of being stuck in a post holiday slump, I’ve proper embraced this New Year as the perfect opportunity for some changes. Healthy changes. Lifestyle changes. House changes!

Not gonna lie, but after the holidays I was srsly itching to tear the decorations down and ready to revamp our house once again.  First thing I thought when I took the decs down – how in the name of Dumbledore’s beard did I not notice how plain everything was in my house?

I suppose you can gimme some credit; we’d moved into the new house in July/ August time, and by the time that we had replaced most of the furniture that we needed to, Christmas had well and truly smacked me straight in between the eyes and we’d almost become a lil bit complacent with our house. I mean, you never seem to notice your surrounding when you see it all the time amirght?

So, currently the kitchen is looking like some kinda post apocalyptic world ATM [stand by for future updates cus there’s some srsly exciting stuff coming up]. I’ve been jiggling some bits around in my living room to refreshen things up whilst I’m contemplating what the heck we’re going to do with the blank walls.

I mean, it’s got to the point where I can’t fall asleep, literally whenever I close my eyes I see different swatches of grey in front of my eyes until I’m completely confused and I’ve forgotten what my living room looks like. LOL, can someone pls tell me this is normal?

I decided to move my OKA bouquet into the living room – periodically this beauty moves from the kitchen, to the bedroom and back to the living room because it srsly brightens up any room. My bouquet has just fallen out of Oka’s Christmas sale, but here is a bunch which is pretty similar.

I stuffed my bouquet with extra amounts of foliage for the Christmas period as a super subtle  festive touch, but as January is still SO so cold and grey and miserable, I’m still committed to keeping my silvery grey stems around for a few weeks longer.

In December, Tibbs absolutely massacred my beloved Japanese dragon tree. Honestly I leave him alone for a few seconds and HUGE chunks of my tree were scattered all around the kitchen. So whilst the dragon tree and my drooping ivy are receiving some much needed R&R in the garden, I’ve replaced the dragon tree with this incredible indoor plant from B&Q. I’m resisting the urge to buy a larger, raised planter (mostly because I have my eye on an £179 pot and I don’t think that James, or my dwindling bank balance, will ever forgive me). My newest addition is about 4 foot tall and really pulls in that jungle feel into my living room.

Also – my inner OCD is absolutely screaming that I couldn’t cover that water ring on my coffee table before this photo was taken. Damn you Gin and tonic, damn you.

PLEASE CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS SIDE OF THE ROOM?

Your gal over here hardly ever wins anything. Ever. I think the last time I won something was ‘most funniest person’ at my Year 11 prom in 2009. Or possibly the grandest present I’d ever won is when my sister and I won a 3 foot chocolate bunny for a colouring competition for the Harvester last year. JOKING, when we were much younger but still, it was grand AF and look us months to get through.

But in December I won the most gorgeous mangolian sheepskin throw pillow of all time from Olivia from Lust Living’s instagram. The pillow is from the incredible Milabert and is so incredibly soft – perfect for those nights where blankets and cuddles are obligatory.

On another note, I absolutely frickin’ adore adore adore this foliage from OKA. Originally in my big bouquet, I swapped these two stems around so they were showcased on their own against the white wall and MAN does it pay off.

I mentioned my vase in my my living room reveal, but I’m still moving it around from room to room and finally I’ve settled again in the living room. I’d say pals that that’s my number one rule in buying anything new for your house, buy items that you can move around and use in different ways around the house. It deffo keeps rooms looking fresh and updated whenever there’s a season change or I’m expecting some guests.

Possibly one of the hands down absolute BEST piece of homeware I own for reviving my living space is my letter board from Letter Writes. As sad as it may sound, but I’m having some kinda competition with myself to keep on bettering the slogan for my letterboard every week. James is quite sure that we should move the letter board to a more permanent location in the NEW kitchen, but I’m so attached to this board being in the living room that y’know what James, we’re just going to buy another one instead [you heard here first pals].

So, here’s my living room in January – an absolute Jungle on one side of the room and a more paired back, Scandi style for my shelves. How are you styling your house this year?

How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

Happy 2018 you sassy babes.

I don’t mean to sound like a classic cliché (such a liar, I love a good old classic cliché or two) but I’m one of those people that was parading around at midnight last week, channeling my inner Bey, stating to James that THIS year is gonna be my year.

I’m gonna ramp up decorating my house, overhaul my (basically non-existent) exercise routine, finally do some travelling with James later on in the year who, yep you guessed it, by that time will be my HUSBAND.

2018 you better come through for me girl cus we have a lot to do this year.

I’m acutely aware that I sound like some kind of millennial grandma RN, but believe it or not, one of my many resolutions this year has been to try and listen to my body and get a better nights sleep.

I turn into some kinda hideous, miserable version of myself in the morning. I mean physically, I’m super unhappy to wake up every. single. day. To the point in which if I don’t have a cup of tea as soon as I wake up, my entire day is ruined. It’s fair to say that clearly I’m just srsly not a morning person.

So, even though it’s early on in the year, I’ve been trying some tricks over the past few weeks to fix my sleeping problems cus, let’s face it, I’m grumpier than Shrek RN.

Two Cats One Flat Interior Beauty Lifestyle Blogger How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

C O M F Y    M A T T R E S S    &    D U V E T

8 hours sleep a night is the recommended amount to leave your body perfectly refreshed.

We spend most of our time in bed, so it’s important to have the tools to be able to give you the perfect nights sleep.

I’ve always been a side sleeper (and the little spoon, not gonna lie to you gals), so I’ve struggled to find a mattress which is firm enough for me but allows me to sleep on my side without waking up with a sore hip or bad back, hobbling around all day looking more miserable than Malfoy.

Two Cats One Flat Interior Beauty Lifestyle Blogger How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

Thankfully I’ve discovered that the Leesa mattress is perfect for giving me the support that I’ve been looking for over the past couple of years. I mean, surely finding the perfect mattress has to be the peak of proper adulting, amiright?

James and I had our old mattress what feels like an entire lifetime ago, and begrudgingly James accepted that we needed to find something which was comfy enough for BOTH of us. Leesa are so confident that if you’re not sleeping better within  100 nights, they’ll refund and donate the mattress to a charity. I said this to James as we were unpacking the box but LOL, after a quick lie down it was apparent this mattress wasn’t going anywhere.

The Leesa mattress has three unique layers of foam, which means that no matter which way you sleep, you’re certain to be supported and comfortable in every position. We’ve had our mattress for about 2 months now and both of us are really feeling the difference in our sleep, for the first time for a couple of years I finally feel refreshed after waking up!

And even though we have a double mattress, James and I invested in a king size duvet because a) surely you can never have too much duvet and b) there’s no more midnight tantrums over who has more of the duvet than the other hurrrrrah.

B E    C O N S I S T E N T

So the time has come when apparently I know everything there is to know about circadium rhythm and I’m preaching about it to everyone, even my neighbours cats, about it. Hashtag boring old lady.

But if you’ve never come across circadium rhythm before, this is our bodies natural cycle that tells our bodies when to eat, sleep, wake up and is affected by everything including sunlight and temperature.

Y’know your Nan always used to tell you to sleep with the window open? I literally used to think this was some kinda old wives tale, but it really does make a difference and improves your sleep when the room is cooler but you’re kept warm by your covers.

Two Cats One Flat Interior Beauty Lifestyle Blogger How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

Also, your circadium rhythm flippin’ LOVES consistency; try and wake up at the same time every day and LOL (can’t believe I’m saying this) but even at the weekend as well. A short lie in is supposed to be OK, but remember the longer you’re in bed in the morning, the less likely you’ll be able to fall asleep in the evening.

Going out and not going to be back until late? You’ve still got to try and get up at your regular time, even if you only have 6 hours sleep, as you’re body is going to be tired again in the evening when your circadium rhythm tells you you’re ready to go to sleep.

And LOL, I’d love to say that I’ve mastered this but really, there’s some nights recently where I’ve been binge watching Riverdale up until midnight.

So yeah, soz about that body.

D I S T R A C T    Y O U R S E L F

I heard a super, super good piece of advice the other day – ‘your bed should only be used for sleeping and recreational activities‘.

LOL.

Well the only recreational activity in my house is that I paint my nails in bed, soooo….

LOL. Basically pals don’t take your phones and tablets to bed; even now most devices have a sleep function where the blue backlight is swapped for an orange hue, your mind is still stimulated by beauty videos, back to back Riverdale and let’s face it, we’ve all stayed up late to watch a cat fight escalate on Twitter from time to time.

Two Cats One Flat Interior Beauty Lifestyle Blogger How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

If you’re struggling to sleep, get up and do something around the house which will prompt your body in wanting to return to bed and sleep, like the washing or some tidying up. Ironing? Or maybe some late night admin?

Or do it the old fashioned way and take a meaty book to bed with you and try and read two pages. Go on, I bet you’ll be asleep in seconds.

G O O D    S K I N C A R E    R O U T I N E

One thing which really gets me in the mood for bed is beginning my evening skincare ritual. I usually take my time, depending on whether I’m going to do a mask or not, but it allows me to really chill out before getting into bed.

Screen Shot 2018-01-08 at 20.41.22.png

I’ve just started using the Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm and holy macaroni, I know I say this from time to time, but it’s the best cleanser for my combination/ oily skin and it leaves your skin so soft and clear of any impurities.

Afterwards I’m applying the tiniest amount of Korre’s Wild Rose Sleeping Facial Cream, and I swear on my great ancestors that this made my skin going from looking like it had been through some kinda post menstrual apocalypse, to eerily blemish free and radiant IN TWO DAYS. Is it a bold statement to call it a miracle cream?

And lastly, with the wedding coming up and all, I’ve been applying Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion to my arms, elbows and legs just before I jump under the duvet. Let’s just say my arms went from the equivalent of an old, used cat scratching post to the underside of a kitten belly in like, a week and I’m v. v. tempted to slather this all over my body and pray to the Sleep Gods that I wake up looking like Blair Waldorf the next morning.

Eh, you can only dream right?

How To Do Christmas Decorating On A Budget

One of the things that I’m dreading the most at the moment is how I’m going to be decorating my house FFS real World problems right here, I know.

You guys already know that I moved into my new house in July, but everything has taken SO LONG to get right over the past 4 months with the basic bits of furniture, let alone enough decorations for anything else (you wouldn’t even have wanted to have seen my pitiful Halloween display this year – shocking, truly shocking). So, I really don’t have the ££££ to splash out on super fancy decorations. Especially with buying Christmas presents, outstanding furniture for the house and with the wedding coming up next year…. shit. Is it hot in here or is that my credit card melting?

img_8369

SO here are a couple of tips which I’m going to be swearing by this year:

  1. Find things which can be used for different times of the year – my absolute favourite are simple decorations like star shapes, white pompom garlands, LED lights or plain pillar candles in hurricane vases. Ikea is probably one of the best places I usually visit, over the years I’ve got star and snowflake shaped candle holders and star shaped dishes. Literally the other day I picked up a really sweet hurricane vase and pillar candle for £3! Another item to keep your eyes peeled for this is pre-lit star at Sainsbury’s which is an absolute steal and a much cheaper version of a designer make Ikea, put it this way, it’s definitely going on my decoration list this year.
Shop here for the pre-lit star of dreams.
  2. Add festive touches to items that you own already – Generally, I keep my house pretty neutral in it’s decoration because it allows me to add colours as and when I want to over the year. OK, half of this is down to the house being new and all the walls looking like a snowy white Christmas but eh, I’ll rock it until the new year. My absolute favourite for tinkering around with this my OKA flowers. I had these for Christmas last year and picked a neutral colour to be able to add a couple of stems of red berries for this time of year. Even though I splashed out on my original bouquet, you can find red berry stems for as little as £3 online, or if you wanted to keep a neutral theme white berries would look fabulous as well.
Shop here, here and here for the pricier red berries.
  3. Use whatever you can find! – I’ve just started up a membership at the Westonbirt Arboretum, and I’m seriously impressed with the bits of foliage and leaves that the walkers manage to pick up which have naturally fallen to the ground. My advice? Go for a walk at your very best autumnal spot and find a bunch of thin branches which you can put in a large vase on their own or use as an addition to a fresh bunch of flowers. Decorating with small logs, even if you don’t have a fireplace, is a great way to make your living room or dining room feel ready for the winter chill. I picked up some great pine cones from Sainsbury’s last week with the most gorgeous cinnamon scent, and I’ve just bunged them in a hurricane vase already cus they’re very seasonal, rather than too Christmassy y’know?
Find where I blogged about it here.
  4. Invest in a garland – Natural faux garlands are great for achieving that festive, wintery feel without being overly Christmas. Just picking one or two garlands gives a great, friendly, foliage feeling and can be run along windowsills, shelves, bannisters and along tables. John Lewis have some great garlands which look fabulous and price wise are much cheaper than an Oka or White Company garland. The real key is to try and find a garland which has a realistic colour too it, and it’s the standard artificial plastic Christmas tree kinda colour.
Don’t fancy a foliage garland? This large pompom from Not On The High Street and gold star garland from Ginger Ray is probably the cutest thing I’ve seen so far and definitely can be used all year round (see point 1!).
Shop here, here and here to invest in a great garland.
  5. Decorate your table with a great centre piece – You can create a great centre piece for your dining room table by using a wreath and some plain pillar candles. Seriously, one of the best wreaths that I’ve bought has been from The Range and every year I find somewhere new to put it. So this is where you can really go crazy with your wreath, foliage, berry, glitter, whatever you like! Ikea do a great collection of different size pillar candles which you can place in the middle and voila, fancy centre piece completed.
Shop here, here, here and here for centre piece inspo.
  6. Throws, throws, throws pillows and throws – This time of year you can really experiment with some different styles, colours and textures to quickly refresh the room, but really I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly this can transform a room. In terms of colour, you can mix around with your colour palette, whites/ greys and light blues for a New Age/ Scandi look, jewel tones for a luxurious feeling, think deep purples and teals, and traditional reds/ oranges are fail safe to give you a festive feel. Play around with textures too, choose more opulent fabrics such as velvet or pick woollen and faux fur for those super cosy feels.

And if all else fails, just tell your fam & friends you’re going Scandi this year and only have a few Christmas pieces out – works an absolute treat when you don’t have much dollar to completely do the house up.

Have you got any tips for Christmas decorating on a budget?

Learning To Forgive Myself

It’s cold. I have the heating on, a pair of fluffy socks, I keep on making cups of tea but it’s still absolutely freezing. I can feel that we’re getting ever so deeper into the Winter months but really, do any of us feel ready?

I mean, I’m usually bumbling around until mid January trying to find my missing glove whilst both my hands have been freezing all Winter long and eh, what d’ya know, the weather seems to be picking up and we’ll all be wearing cute blouses and denim jackets again in a few weeks. Typical me eh!

The Gilmore Girls are on in the background, my Stoneglow candle lit, the cats are asleep, I had the biggest brunch earlier (triple stacked pancakes with bacon and eggs and you wouldn’t believe how good it was), I’ve slipped into my comfy clothes early, I’ve got a gin and tonic and srsly, can life get any better?

But there are bad moments as well; despite the weather, my crap hair day today, my worries about my weight, my career and our finances, my chipped nail varnish and the overloaded dishwasher that’s waiting for me downstairs, I realised that I am happy.

Not just any old happy, but truly happy from the bottom, most deepest part of my heart.

But it’s taken some time to get there, I mean a lot of time.

‘It’s not that I felt jealous, it was just pure remorse for my own decisions, lack of judgement and stubbornness’

I’m sure, like most people, that over the course of my life there’s been events or decisions that I’ve made that I haven’t been happy with which have ultimately have had an effect on the life that I lead today.

Some of those decisions came to be some of the biggest regrets of my life. Leaving my secondary school, not going to university, the way that I’ve treated people that have come in and out of my life, the ways that I’ve handled things, past relationships and tbh, some of these really aren’t easy to talk about.

University, or the lack of it, became one of the greatest decisions that I struggled to try and wrap my head around. At one point, I would be in a constant state of worry; everyone that I knew was at University and I could see what the life was like – working hard and getting a greater education, bunking lectures, living with other people my age, managing my own time, making my own dinners, going out on nights out, making new friends. It’s not that I felt jealous, it was just pure remorse for my own decisions, lack of judgement and stubbornness.

I’d go to bed beating myself up – why did I do this to myself? Why have I been so stupid? Can’t you see how much you’re missing?

‘Why did I do this to myself? Why have I been so stupid?’

Sometimes I have the most mental dreams, I mean last week I had some random dream that I was hosting a baby shower, we ran out of balloons and cake and LOL I ended up crying and cancelling the whole thing even though it wasn’t my party.

But during some of the worst periods of my life, my dreams were played out as if it was rewinding back to moments where I had to make an important decision. Almost to the point in which, in my dream, I would watch my life back as if it was a movie and I had absolutely no control of the outcome. Then I would wake up; confused as to where I am and for the briefest of moments I would feel 15/16 again and sick to the bottom of my stomach.

I would then spend all day, all week, in a state where I would constantly be questioning myself. What would my life be like? Where would I be now? Would I be more successful, more happy, more fulfilled?

For such an awfully long time I’ve resented myself, really really resented myself and held myself accountable for pretty much everything. I’ve even blamed myself for things that don’t go right in my life at this moment. It’s almost as if I can pin point those ‘Sliding Doors’ moments in my life, if I could change just one thing about my past, could I prevent awful things happening in my future?

‘I’m living my very best life, right here, right now and I’m going to savour every moment of it’

It’s only now that I’m much older that I can look back and realise that they weren’t bad mistakes and they definitely weren’t bad decisions. I look around me now and think this is the life I should be proud to have. If anything, not going to University just made my appetite for success even stronger, and the rewards from all of that hard work even sweeter.

Now, I think of it the other way around. If I made decisions other than the ones that I have made so far, would I have my house, my cats and my fiancé? Would I be financially OK (I mean, you gotta prioritise having enough dolla for decent makeup amiright?) and would I have been in a position where I bought my first property at the age of 23? Would my family be healthy, would I be healthy?

I’ve decided to have no regrets, no mistakes; life is too short and wonderful to keep on holding myself to things that happened in the past and y’know what, earlier this year I let all of that resentment go. Honestly, what is the point in making myself miserable, reminding myself of things which happened in the past, usually out of my control. I can pretty much hear my mum’s voice in my mind ‘everyone else has moved on, why can’t you too?’.

‘I’ve decided to have no regrets, no mistakes; life is too short and wonderful to keep on holding myself to things that happened in the past’

Learning to forgive myself for all the mistakes that I’ve made has taken me a long time, I mean don’t get me wrong, I still have those moments where I wonder what might have been. Nowadays, instead of wondering whether in some other life I’m a multi-millionaire or a World famous blogger (LOL dreaming big here), I wonder whether I can make those opportunities available to me right now, rather than always assuming that my biggest goals belong to a life that I haven’t chosen.

I love my life, my cats, my family and my fiancé, I just need to learn to love myself a little bit more too. I’m living my very best life, right here, right now and I’m going to savour every moment of it.

The Sexy AF Slow Cook Chicken Curry You HAVE To Make This Autumn.

Ah Autumn you beautiful, beautiful babin’ season.

Autumn for me is all about the comfy jumpers, the coffee cups, fluffy socks, cuddles on the sofa, fireworks and autumn walks. I bloody LOVE a good autumn walk, there’s nothing better than getting outside in the fresh, crisp air admiring all of the different shades of red and burnt orange on the trees, having a competition with one another to find the brightest leaves, having a hot chocolate in the cold with your warmest gloves on and throwing up a pile of leaves in pure joy.

But LOL after that amount of excitement in one day I am absolutely, absolutely, absolutely starving when I get home, and knackered, so really we need something warm, hearty, tasty and delicious for when we get back.

Time to knock the dust off the slow cooker! This recipe is from the deliciously gorgeous Hemsley and Hemsley Good + Simple 2, and will really put the Mmmmmmmmm back into your Autumn.

IMG_7862.JPG

I N G R E D I E N T S
Serves 4

  • 1.2kg chicken thighs (8 small thighs, skin on and bone in)
  • 2 large onions, diced
  • 6 garlic cloves, diced
  • 6cm piece of fresh root ginger (unpeeled if organic), grated
  • 2 tablespoons tomato purée
  • 2½ tablespoons garam masala
  • 2 teaspoons sweet smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon tamari (optional)
  • 1 x 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 x 400ml tin of full-fat coconut milk
  • 2 handfuls of fresh coriander, stems finely chopped, leaves reserved to serve
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • Juice of 1–2 lemons or 2 limes, to serve
  • Optional 200g of baby leaf spinach

M E T H O D

  1. Literally chuck everything into your slow cooker apart from the coriander and the lemon juice, season, stir, pop the lid back on and you can cook on either a high setting for 3 hours, or a low setting for 6 hours.
  2. Don’t have a slow cooker? You can cook this on a hob too by using a pan with a heavy lid, to ensure that any liquid doesn’t escape, and keeping it on the lowest setting for 1–1½ hours.
  3. If you want a thick sauce, remove the lid from the slow cooker or the pan for the last 20-30 minutes for the liquid to reduce down and thicken up.
  4. For an extra healthy curry, 5 minutes towards the end of the cook add in 160g – 200g of baby spinach, stir in and leave to allow the spinach leaves to wilt.
  5. When ready, stir in the coriander, lemon juice, season to taste and serve with either basmati, brown or cauliflower rice.

38 Thoughts Every Girl Has When Wedding Dress Shopping

FYI internet babes, but wedding dress shopping is not what I expected it to be…

IMG_7822.JPG

IMG_7819.JPG

1.  Omg, literally the moment I’ve been waiting for FOREVER – I’ve been so excited I’ve barely eaten all day.

2. Oh god, I hope I fit in the dress.

3. Google says I’m in for a glass of prosecco at an Edwardian boutique with my very own dress advisor WHERE DO I SIGN UP?!

4. Right, Say Yes To The Dress says to keep an open mind for styles.

5. Open miiiiiiind (not a ballgown) completely open miiiiind (dear lord please no tuille or spaghetti straps).

6. This. Place. Is. Amazing. I’ll just have a look through this rack of dresses right here oh erm hello shop assistant I didn’t realise that you pick them out for me. Great.

7. Sure I have faith in you and I’m sure I’m going to love the dresses you pull (not).

8. Erm, can my mum see how panicked I look right now?

9. OK, OK this is EXACTLY the style I thought I wanted iloveit-iloveit-iloveit.

10. Wait, you need me to take my bra off? Ah, reassuring me you’ve seen tonnes of nipples before really makes me feel better.

11. I’ll just yep, try and cover my nipples as much as I can. Oh shit, need to take my hands off my boobs to actually get in it so not ideal.

12. I hope I fit in the dress.

13. Silence, oh sweet lord you can’t do the buttons up can you?

14. Just say it, just tell me I’m fat. TELL ME I’M FAT.

15. Oh wedding dresses just happen to come up small do they? I’m fairly certain that you’re paid to tell me that otherwise I’ll just end up crying.

16. This. Is. It.

17. I expect tears from the entourage because if there ain’t tears THIS AIN’T THE ONE.

18. I can’t really move in this, gaad damn I’m gonna have to tone down my dramatic reveal.

19. TA-DAAA I’M A BRIDE!

20. No tears. Pensive faces. What the heck does that mean?!

21. Oh you like it, that’s good. What? Oh I’m fiiiiiiine, it’s not like I was expecting a small speech or anything (completely expecting tears and some pre-prepared words at least).

22. Oh, we’re not allowed to take photographs? Erm.

23. Oh no it’s fine y’know, I didn’t want to see the back anyway. Or post a snap on my Instagram stories. It’s fine. Really (really not fine).

24. Omg I so don’t look like the model in this dress, she’s like 957291 times hotter than me.

25. And so skinny too, my arms look like massive slabs of beef in this dress.

26. We’re all good, it’s the first dress we’ll try another one on, we have loads of time.

27. JUST NO.

28. OH HOLY HAGRID. DROWNING IN LACE. PLEASE SEND HELP.

29. Urgh god, I’m just so tired.

30. And hungry.

31. And confused because why does nothing seem to suit my body shape?!

32. Well, this is new – it’s never occurred to me to try this style of dress on but meh, can’t be worse than the last dress anyway.

33. Wait, why do I wanna cry?

34. JACK ME UP JACK ME UP JACK ME UP.

35. The entourage isn’t crying but ain’t no drama, I feel sassy AF in this gown.

36. It’s perfect absolutely perfect I’m going to be so mature and elegant on the day it’s literally going to be the…

37. IT’S HOW MUCH? That’s erm, nearly twice my budget. Cripes.

38. Eh, the entourage has spoken – You can’t put a price on the right dress *sassy hair flick*.

Well, at least that’s what I’m gonna have to tell James tonight because we’ll be surviving on tinned tuna for the rest of the month. How was your dress shopping experience, anything like mine?

Winter Warming Gin Cocktail

I don’t think I can contain my love of gin.

GIN. GIN. GIN. GIN. GIN.

So crisp, so refreshing, so botanical. Mmmmmm.

Not gonna lie, I’m only mildly concerned with how quickly a 70cl bottle lasts us (a couple of weeks, pls tell me this is normal) but just when you think you’ve had all the different types of gin and allllll  the different tonics then BAM. Fever Tree and Lidl have new releases and it would be rude not make a new cocktail, right?

This is a lil summin summin I made up myself (between us, I’m calling it the Seasonal Swift Gin Slammer… or maybe just Winter Warming Gin sounds better) and cor blimey, it really gets me ready for the Winter months.

I’m not a huge lover of thick beverages (I’m thinking purely of the amount of Bailey’s James manages to quoff down at Christmas time) so for me, this cocktail ticks three huge boxes:
Seasonal and fruity (without tasting overly spicy)
Absolutely beautiful
And bloody delicious.

  • Fever Tree Clementine and Cinnamon tonic
  • Hortus Oriental Spiced London Dry Gin (or any other spiced Gin)
  • Fresh orange, sliced
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Fresh sprigs of thyme
  • Plenty of ice
  • And your absolute prettiest glassware

One of the best things about this recipe is rimming with the orange; slice into thin slices, gently squeeze and rim along the top of the glass, squeeze harder inside the glass and place the slice at the sides.

Keep the orange slices upright by placing a good handful of ice in the middle of the glass.

Gin first (obvs), then tonic. I have short tumblers so only used a single shot, but feel free to double up if you have a collins tumbler or copa glass.

Place pomegranate seeds on top of the ice, they’ll gradually fall down and rise back up again. I used about a teaspoon of pomegranate juice to get a very light pink tinge colour.

Pat thyme in between hands to release flavour and use as a stirrer.

Serve to all your guests… that is after they’ve finished taking a picture of them because they are so flippin Pinterest-worthy and instagrammable.

Take A Peek At My New Living Room

Ah you guys, you guys, you guys.

I literally cannot put into words how excited I am to share with you my. new. living room. Tbh, I’m actually a bit of a shit blogger for leaving it this late. I moved into the new house in July. Yes, it’s November now and yes, it’s only just (really nearly) been finished but anything that I want is waaaay too much dolla (damn you West Elm Bar Cart) and everything that I have bought already is burning a deep hole in my pocket. Or my credit card.

Definitely the credit card, I haven’t mastered proper adulating just yet.

Buuuut on a positive note, the living room is more or less finished and I couldn’t be happier. Honestly, I’m like a sweet little pig in mud when I light my True Grace candles, sink into my new sofa and binge watch Gossip Girl all over again.

Say boom boom boom, everybody say wayoo, wayoooooo.

After about 4 years of complaining about wanting floating shelves and throwing mini strops whenever we go to idea, I have no idea how I managed to convince James, but ALAS I managed to squirrel them away in my Ikea haul a couple of months ago and persuaded him to put them up for me.

And…. I’m not a fan anymore.

LOL.

I didn’t actually realise that piling magazines and candles onto the shelf, especially in a new house, is starting to pull it away from the wall a little bit.

N’ah never mind, whilst I’m working on another solution to try and prevent a mammoth size hole from appearing in the wall, I’ve put as many lightweight bits and bobs on that I can without having that gut wrenching feeling that DEAR GOD IT’S GOING TO FALL OVER.

My plant is probably my absolute favourite item on my shelf RN, it’s a modest ivy plant which is super duper easy to look after (all rise if you’re a serial plant killer like me) and was an absolute bloody steal from Ikea at £3.

£3!!

Just underneath my shelves I keep my trusted knitted pouffe from John Lewis; even when you thought the knitted pouffe trend is over, it certainly isn’t my friends. It’s really great for a footstool/ extra seating/ whacking a tray on it when my coffee table is too full of snacks and wine etc. etc.

FYI – The pouffe out of stock in this colour at the moment, but you can still get it in a fabulous steel blue shade, and I feel like I’ve had the Oliver Bonas copper letters for aaaaages but you’re gal’s managed to hook you up with a link to them in the sale. You’re welcome.

Cripes, I shared a photo of my sofa when we first moved into our new house a couple of weeks ago and it is STILL getting lot of love in Instagram [shameless little Insta link here if you want to check it out].

I. Am. In. Love. With. This. Sofa.

After 4 house moves over the past 5 years, this really is the best sofa that we have bought together. It’s the Aurora DFS sofa in Dark Blue; originally I was really adamant we were going to end up with a grey sofa, but after having grey floors, grey carpets etc. we decided to take the plunge and get a really daring colour and I gotta say, it really paid off *pats self on back*.

We were so pleased with the side tables as well, these are part of the John Lewis Calia range and come as a set of 3; we decided to take the tallest table and have one either side of the sofa, and these are literally perfect for whipping these out when we’re having a cheeseboard or something else highly boring and middle-aged of us.

My absolute favourite item recently has been the vase that I bought from Oliver Bonas; this entire range of vases are completely hand made and every one is as unique as the next which made it srsly hard to decide between them. I finished it off with some faux eucalyptus stems from Homesense and my True Grace Amber diffuser keeps my living room smelling sexy and homely.

Ah my sweet, sweet coffee table. This was actually a bit of an older buy when we were back at the flat from Dwell but I am still srsly in love with it. Unfortunately the round coffee table is no longer in stock, but I’ve hooked you up with a link for the square marble topped version wayooo.

The shape of the living room is so different to that of the flat, so even though originally I was desperate for a square shaped coffee table, because the room is so long and rectangular it almost needs different shapes bringing into it to prevent it from looking too boxy and structured.

Although I LOVE clean lines and a modern finish [gurl, you should srsly check out everything I’ve been pinning recently on Pinterest], I still really want it to be cosy and relaxing too.

I’ve so pleased with the rug we picked up as well – although I was aiming for something a little more like thisJames was after something that was a lot more muted and soft under feet as well… especially with having tiles, we can feel it getting colder in the evenings! SO this babin’ rug from John Lewis stepped in and holy Hagrid, it’s so plushy soft and low pile that I could easily fall asleep on it.

I’ve started to decorate ready for the autumn/ festive season (is it too early? naah) so literally last week I picked up these incredible pine cones from Sainsbury’s Home; they smell just like a warm Autumn’s evening rather than too much like Christmas, y’know? So I piled them into my Oka vase, finished off with my piles and piles of Ideal Home magazine and the sweet armadillo I picked up from House of Fraser last year.

Voila!

The Sexiest Bonfire Night Look With YSL

IT’S NOVEMBER, HURRAHHHH!

November is my absolute favourite, babin’ sassy time of year, it’s the last chance we have to enjoy the golden red leaves before Winter well and truly sets in, nights are spent cuddled under thick warm blankets and episode after episode of Netflix and especially cus it’s bonfire night tonight. I love donning a pair of wellies, eating a hot dog and waiting for the flashes in the sky.

And today is mine and James’s five year anniversary. FIVE YEARS. When the heck did that happen?

I midly freaked myself out this morning thinking that dear lord, we’ve been together half a century and this time next year, I’m going to be Mrs Charlotte Ward. MRS WARD.

Me! A Wife!

Anyway, today is a very special day for me, so I decided to opt for a make-up look which has a lil bit of sparkle and a lil bit of sass cus when else can you opt for shimmer and drama during the year?

B A S E

Recently I have been raving about Bare Minerals to basically everyone, my cats and the neighbours cats because it is srsly, srsly good.

When it comes to makeup, two important things I look for when doing my base are – does it look natural and does it feel natural?

The last thing that I want to do is feel like I’m physically wearing something heavy, oily or overly matted on my face. I tend to naturally touch my skin a lot when I’m talking, so I want something to last and something which blends nicely into the rest of my skin.

The Bare Minerals Pro Foundation does exactly that and you need the teeniest tiniest little blob to cover your entire face. It applies a really thin layer but honestly, it dries a bit like a powder so it feels super light on your face. I opted for 04 Aspen, but now that the Winter months are coming I feel that I could alternate between the 02 Dawn depending on the look I wanna go for.

The Bare Minerals foundation comes in a whopping 30 SHADES, so if you’re struggling to get a good colour match recently, gurrrrl you gotta hit this up.

The concealer that I’m using under my eyes and around my jawline is the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Concealer, which again is nice and light and is slightly illuminating to give you a fresh, dewy and wide awake look.

Oh Lord, my bronzer is seriously the one you need to hook yourself up with; it’s the Bare Minerals Invisible Bronze Powder and holy Hagrid, it gives you such a natural bronze-y glow that gives you the perfect golden look without needing to be in Marbella, Aperol Spritz in hand, sunbathing on the beach, I’ll just stop now *sob*.

My moisturiser and cleanser that I’m using at the moment is the La Mer Moisturising Soft Cream and the La Mer Cleansing Lotion which have both really cleared my skin up recently (both absolutely flippin’ incred btw, but more on that another day!).

B R O W S

OK, I’m aware that I’m due to get my eyebrows done sometime soon… pls don’t judge me.

I’m really trying not to touch my eyebrows much nowadays, I’ve never been a fan of the incredibly sharp, overly dark eyebrows so I colour match where I can, fluff them up a little bit and (lol, attempt to) fill in some of the gaps.

I draw a line under and a faint line on top of my brows using Lancome Le Crayon Brow Pencil which is a v. v. good colour match to my eyebrows, then using the Bare Minerals Brow Master Brush and Brow Powder, I fluff my brows upwards and ooooh so gently tap where I need to fill them in cus cor blimey, this stuff goes so far.

Let’s be honest, I’m probably one of the World’s Worst Beauty Bloggers because I actually don’t like an overly eye shadowed look gasp. I prefer colours which compliments eye and hair colours and subtlety, so usually my go shades in my makeup drawer are LOL 48292 shades of nude.

But that’s why I’m such a big fan of the YSL Dual Smokey Eye Stick, all of the eyeshadows come in the most stunning jewel tones to suit all eye colours and have both a shimmer and a darker shade. The consistency of the eye shadow is more like a cream, so it blends super easily and is almost a fool proof way of having a great eyeshadow look if you’re naturally not a huge makeup lover.

I complimented the eye shadow with the YSL Couture Eyeliner in (Purple Shade) both on top and under my lashes. A quick swipe of my makeup bag essential, the Lancome Cils Booster and the Bare Minerals Lash Domination Mascara and da naaaaaah, finished.

I swear to the beauty god’s of the World that the Dr Hauschka Lip Balm is probably one of those under rated beauty secrets that no one seems to know about. I’ve had my lip balm for probably about 18 months and just about need a new one now, but I put this on everyday without fail. Hydrating. Moisturing. Soft. What more can you want?

I’ve then used a soft Lancome Lip Liner and, you won’t believe it, a New Look lipstick in medium brown.
